English: Daniel saw at the RubyConf 2008 the presentation of KAKUTANI Shintaro
about the RubyKaigi. It sounds that it will be a cool conference. So he attend.

English: He is living in Hannover. Do you know Hannover?

English: Well, maybe you know the CeBIT (せびっと). The biggest IT
conference in the world. It takes place in Hannover!
Japanese: ひょっとするとCeBIT (セビット)なら知っているかも。
Japanese: CeBITは世界最大規模のITカンファレンスです。これはハノーバーで開催されているんです！
English: But there are far more things in the near of Hannover.
Japanese: でも、ハノーバーの周りにはもっといろんなものがあります。
English: For example “The Pied Piper of Hamelin” (ハーメルンの笛吹き男)
Japanese: たとえば、「ハーメルンの笛吹き男」。
English: This guy is coming from a town called “Hamelin” (ハーメルン). And this
town is directly below Hannover.
Japanese: この男は、「ハーメルン(Hamelin)」という街から来ました。
Japanese: ハーメルンはハノーバーのすぐ隣の街です。
English: And there is the local Ruby Usergroup in Hannover.
Japanese: そして、ハノーバーには地域Rubyユーザグループがあります。
English: This Usergroup was founded just some month ago.
Japanese: このグループはほんの数ヶ月前に設立されたばかりです。
English: There is actually one usergroup attendant who is also coming from“Hamelin”. But he isn’t a pied piper (-;

English: Do you know this 4 musicians?
Japanese: この４人のミュージシャンはご存知ですか？
English: They are called the “Town Musicians of bremen” (ブレーメンの音楽隊)
Japanese: 彼らは「ブレーメンの音楽隊(Town Musicians of bremen)」と呼ばれています。
English: And the city where they are living is called Bremen.
Japanese: 彼らが住んでいる街はブレーメンと呼ばれています。
English: There is a local Usergroup which is meeting frequently at different places.
Japanese: ここの地域ユーザグループのミーティングは、場所を変えながらも、たびたび開催されています。
English: There were already over 40 people at the first meeting!
Japanese: 最初のミーティングには40人以上の人が参加してくれました！
English: A professor from the University of Bremen is bringing frequently new
speakers from his class to the meetings.

English: There is a local Hamburg Ruby Usergroup at least since 2005.

English: The meetings are placed at different places. For example in the Xing offices.

English: Xing is a german business social network. It has over 7 millionmembers and parts of this platform are written in Ruby.

English: Berlin is the capital and the biggest city in germany. There are over 3
million people.
Japanese: ベルリン(Berlin)はドイツの首都であり、最大の都市でもあります。
Japanese: 300万人以上の人々がこの街に住んでいます。
English: Maybe this city is not nearly as big as tokyo. but instead of this, there isan alien space ship directly located under berlin!
Japanese: とはいえ、おそらくこの街も、東京ほどには大きくはないでしょう。
Japanese: ですが、その代わり、ベルリンには異星人の宇宙船があるのです！
English: How cool is that? You don’t believe this?
Japanese: すごいですよね？ 信じられます？
English: Look at this picture. It looks like a TV Tower but in fact it is a giant radio
antenna from a space ship.

English: Actually there is a hackspace called “c-base” who discovered this shipand is very interested in the advanced technologies. we guess they also found Rubyinside of the ship (-;

Japanese: 高度なテクノロジーに興味を持つ人々が集まるところです。
Japanese: Rubyもきっとこの船の中で見つけられたんだと思います ;-)
English: So there is also a local Berlin Ruby Usergroup since 2006 whodedicated look at ruby.
Japanese: そのため、ベルリンの地域Rubyユーザグループもここで活動しています。
Japanese: 発足は2006年で、Rubyを熱心に研究しています。
English: In 2007 and 2008 there was the RailsConf Europe.
Japanese: 2007年と2008年にはRailsConf Europeが開催されました。
English: By the way. There is a german print magazine called “RailsWay” since
the beginning of this year which sponsored also a conference called RailsWayCon in
2009.

English: We just found, that there is a japanese Oktoberfest: http://www.nihon-oktoberfest.com/ in Tokyo

English: If you asked yourself where this strange event is coming from, youfinally get an answer. It’s coming from a town called Munich which is located in thesouth of germany.
Japanese: この風変わりなイベントがどこから来たのかに興味を持てば、きっと答えは見つかるでしょう。
Japanese: ドイツの南に位置するミュンヘンと呼ばれる街から来たのです。
English: next to this event there were also some very special conferences.
Japanese: このイベントの他にも、とても特別なカンファレンスが開かれています。
English: three times in a row the European Ruby Conferences (EuRuKo 2004,2005 and 2006) took place here.
Japanese: これまで3回ほどヨーロッパRubyカンファレンス(EuRuKo 2004,2005,2006)がここで開催されました。
English: and by the way the creator of Rack is also living in this city.
Japanese: ちなみに、Rackの作者が住んでいるのもこの街です。

English: we are leaving for a short moment germany and take a closer look tothe beautiful city Vienna in Austria,

English: there is also a hugh ruby base in austria.

English: in 2007 the 5. EuRuKo took place here

English: Just a side note: the creator of script.aculo.us is living in Vienna

English: In 2003 the 1. EuRuKo was located in Karlsruhe. As far as we know, thefirst ruby conference in europe at all.

English: the last stage is the city “Frankfurt am Main”

English: venue of the german rails conference “RailsKonferenz” in 2007 and2008. There will also be a “RailsKonferenz 2009” in September.

English: There are lots of people interested in ruby all around the world.
Japanese: Rubyに関心を持っている人々は世界中にたくさんいます。
English: But there is one big issue.
Japanese: しかし、大きな問題が一つあります。
English: We are speaking different languages. And we have different cultures.
Japanese: 私たちは異なる言葉を話しています。そして、異なる文化を持っています。
English: We don’t want to change our culture!
Japanese: 自分たちの文化を変えたくはありません！
English: We also don’t want to completely change our language, because thatwould also change our culture!
Japanese: また、自分たちの言葉を完全に変えてしまいたくもありません！ それもきっと文化を変えてしまうでしょう。
English: So what do we do? Do we capitulate?
Japanese: では、どうすればいいでしょうか？ お手上げでしょうか？
English: I don’t hope so!
Japanese: そんなことはないはずです！
English: Maybe we can use a little bit technology to make things easier.
Japanese: ちょっとしたテクノロジーを使えば、物事はもっと簡単になるはずです。
English: For example google just announce last month a tool called “GoogleTranslator Toolkit”. With this tool you can translate documents in a very modern fashion.
Japanese: たとえば、Googleは先月「Google Transltor Toolkit」というツールを公開しました。
Japanese: これを使えば、今風のやり方で文書を翻訳することができます。
English: But actually at the moment this tool can only translate from the sourcelanguage ‘english’.
Japanese: けれど実際には、今のところは英語からしか翻訳できません。
English: So instead of this, we just started to create a prototype of a languagegateway specific to the needs of the ruby community.
Japanese: ですので、代わりに、Rubyコミュニティ向けの言語ゲートウェイのプロトタイプを作りはじめました。
English: We imported the ruby mailinglist. And we give you an interface to this list.
Japanese: 私たちはRubyのメーリングリストに持ち込んでみました。
Japanese: このリストのインターフェースを提供します。
English: In the background we automatically translate the mails into severallanguages.
Japanese: これはメールをいくつかの言語に翻訳します。この処理はバックグラウンドで、自動的に行われます。
English: You can see this translations. Compare with the original or other
translations. And finally, if you like and understand the sense, you can edit the
translation to improve it even more.
Japanese: この翻訳の結果はあなたも見ることができます。
Japanese: オリジナルとその翻訳結果を比べてみてください。
Japanese: そして、意味が理解できたら、翻訳を編集して改善することもできます。
English: We don’t know if this is working well.
Japanese: このしくみがうまくいくかどうかは分かりません。
English: But if it works, maybe it makes the world even a little bit smaller. And it
would give some informations to peoples who would never get this information before!
Japanese: ですが 、もしうまくいけば、今よりも少しだけ世界は小さくなるはずです。
Japanese: そして今まで手に入れられなかった情報を手にすることができるようになるはずです！
English: We would like to hear your opinions about this. Can it work? Would you
like to commit? Or is it a bad idea which has to fail?
Japanese: ぜひみなさんのご意見を聞きたいです。これは上手くいくでしょうか？ 参加したいですか？
